Packing light for a trip! How many times have I promised myself that the next trip I take will be without cumbersome unnecessary luggage?
I usually start at least a week or two before I travel by picking out all the possible items of clothing I might want to consider taking with me and promise myself that I will not take anything that I will not wear! Has anyone else been there? Colour coordination comes into play, no point in taking something that does not go with anything else in my wardrobe, right! Ask yourself, how many times will I wear this? It is not worth taking something for the “just in case” scenario.
To me, travelling well means having enough clothes, toiletries, and travel essentials to be comfortable without dragging along anything I could do without. The fewer things I carry, the less I have to worry about and not to mention saving time and money — although I have yet to go with no checked bags.
Leave behind anything that doesn’t fit quite right, anything that’s uncomfortable, and anything that you don’t think you’ll wear more than once. Now here’s something to try – pack the backpack or the carry-on and lug it around the house for a while or head into town and try a little window shopping and see how you feel after an hour of lugging around your carry-on.
So how does the thought of travelling with a carry-on sound to you? A little daunting I am sure, and it’s not something that I have tried yet – but my daughter is about to take a 3-week trip to Portugal, Spain, Italy, and Croatia. Knowing that she normally has the largest, heaviest luggage when we travel is the first part, but now there is no choice, as the tickets she has booked are all allowing carry-on only.
I think we have come up with the best solution for her – American Stoic Carry on Back pack/Duffel – this is another one that we liked Eagle Creek Expandable . I will continue to add to this list as I find the best solutions for travelling light for myself for my coworking adventure to Lisbon in May.
